Over the past decades US markets have become increasingly more monopolised. Giants like Amazon, Google, and Facebook continue to grow. As shareholders demand more profits and the market capacity is finite, one of the ways they expand is by squeezing small businesses. An example would be brick-and-mortar retail shops going out of business. Google and Facebook advertising prices for small businesses are continuing to rise. Is there a place in the US marketplace for small businesses? Yes, but it is getting smaller and smaller every year.
They questions is, why do you have to barely survive in this monopolised environment, when there are better alternatives?
The European market is less competitive and the Russian market is even less competitive compared to the European. New markets open up in Russia with a 5-10 year delay compared to the US. It gives entrepreneurs plenty of time to start and develop profitable businesses that have already been tested in other countries. Researching the American market helps a lot. In Russia we enjoy less competition, less stress, lower labor costs, and higher profit margins.
Let me give you an example: Microgreens revolution — it has been a US trend for at least 10 years now, but only now it has come to develop in Russia. Why hasn’t anyone paid attention? Honestly, I don’t have a good answer.
Want a high profile case which came to fruition? Take a look at Tinkoff bank. It started in 2006 implementing a CapitalOne bank business model in Russia. What they have more than 12 years later is a highly profitable institution with more than 7 million customers and more than $440 million dollars in profits annually.
